Metrosonic is very proud to wish Andrew Bird congratulations on the success of his record “Break It Yourself” on the Billboard 200!

You might remember, Mr. Bird worked on his record right here at Metrosonic last year, and we are thrilled to see all the success that has come his way since.

Break it Yourself is now positioned at #94 on the Billboard Top 200 after peaking at an amazing #10. It’s also charting on the folk (#6), independent (#14), and rock charts (#34)

Impressive as it is, this is not Mari Jaye’s first time working with Sesame Street. Her shorts titled “Twelve Little Chicks,” and “Thirteen’s Not So Lucky,” were also broadcast on the show’s 42nd season.

If you’re looking for proof that what you name your child will effect his chosen profession, look no further than Dan Sexbang and Ninja Brian of comedy duo Ninja Sex Party.

The duo was in the studio last week recording some voiceovers and vocal tracks for a brand new video. It was a full house with not only NSP but also some major voiceover talent (no joke – think Broadway) providing grunts, groans and “You will rule over the dance floor with a brutal iron fist!!!“s.

This yet to be released video will be titled “Dj’s In Pj’s,” so keep a look out for it on their youtube channel, and while you’re at it check out some of their previous work. Did we forget to mention that all their vocals were recorded at Metrosonic…? (High five!)

The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble was in the studio earlier this week working on a few new recordings. Originally from Chicago, IL, the group relocated to New York a few years ago. Since forming in 1999, HBE has released 5 original LP’s, toured worldwide and just recently had their song “War” chosen for the score of the 2012 Lionsgate movie “The Hunger Games“, not to mention they’ve performed live onstage with De La Soul, Tony Allen, and the artist formerly known as Prince.

Wow.

If it felt like a family get-together when HBE was in, it’s because it actually was. Seven of the groups eight members are brothers and are the seven youngest sons of famed Sun Ra Arkestra trumpeter Kelan Phil Cohran. Mr. Cohran taught his sons from a very young age and their experience really shines in the studio.

Their credits (and talent) go on and on and we couldn’t be more proud to have them at Metrosonic. Stay tuned for updates…

This past weekend Midnight High stepped into the studio to record their first album. We set up in the large live room, taking advantage of the extra space & getting some huge drums recorded along the way.  All three members seemed to have their own personal style of music that couldn’t have been placed together more perfectly, infusing Metal and Grunge with Reggae and Punk. The technical component of this band’s music is high (pun intended). They transitioned through genres of rock music like it was second nature, which is sure to leave the listener in a state of bliss. We had a great time with the guys and are looking forward to seeing and hearing their final product. Like them on facebook and stay tuned for their future endeavors.

The last time we saw Mattison was at Zebulon back in December.  Nice place to check out a show.  We were able  get comfortable, kick back some drinks & enjoy a great performance.  Kate & Angel’s voices sound wonderful, especially together, & somehow have a way of drawing you in.  A good mix of soul & down tempo grove keeps the crowd engaged & moving.  So you can see why we are looking forward to their next show at  Zebulon cafe  (Williamsburg, Brooklyn) this Thursday, March 22 . I’m sure they will be showcasing some new songs along with music from their up coming album that was recorded here at MetroSonic. Check out Zebulon Café’s website for more details.

Rachel Brown RMH 3/18

After a huge year including a 40 date college tour and winning Perez Hilton’s “Can YOU Sing?” contest, our friend and Metrosonic Alum, Rachel Brown, is back in NYC to play the famed Rockwood Music Hall on March 18th.

It’s 21+, but the show is FREE!

This is a great opportunity to see a stellar performer in an intimate venue.

Brother Han came into the studio ready for a long day of work for the new demo he recorded here at MetroSonic. Making sure everyone he brought in to preform on the tracks knew their role was his first goal of the day. Before we got started, the producer Amir Salem, drummer David Ashkenazy, and bassist John Lang spent time with Brother Han sitting in a circle,  strategically plotting out cues, accents, and little changes, making sure the parts and arrangement were right.  I overheard one of the musicians suggesting that they were deliberating for too long, but Han assured him that time is never wasted when doing things right.

Finally came time for Brother Han, David, and John to hit the live room and record. Everything recorded was done live with Han in the isolation booth with his acoustic guitar and David behind the drums, with John right beside him on the bass. The sound was incredible; the talent of David and John flowed very well with the soft and sleek sound of Brother Han’s voice, accompanied by his beautiful acoustic folk guitar skills.

If you would like to hear Brother Han for yourself, check him out when he plays the Affaire restaurant and nightclub coming up March 25^th.

Lead singer Petter Stakee and his band Alberta Cross are playing two shows this Saturday and Sunday at Pianos in NYC.  We had a great time working with Petter during the Damian Pearce sessions. Petter produced Damian’s recording and laid down some guitars, bass, backing vocals as well.

Having one of the sickest jobs ever (working at Metrosonic) can sometimes have it’s perks. Damien Pearce was recording his new album in our Williamsburg studio and much to my delight, the music is floating through the air from the closed recording studio doors and is making its way to the back office.  Talented producer Petter Stakee (from Alberta Cross) is ensuring that every track recorded is spirited and soulful.  Also joining them for the project is Benji Lysaght (guitars) and Darren Beckett (drums), adding incomparable precision and depth to the music.

Although the details can’t be revealed yet (sorry….. for Damien , Petter , and our ears only), it can be said that fans and critics alike should be excited…. To be continued….
